SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4.
Today we celebrate the release of John Wick: Chapter 4, the fourth instalment in the John Wick movie franchise, an action-thriller series that follows the story of a retired hitman named John Wick, who is forced back into the criminal underworld after the tragic death of his wife. The series is directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad, and stars Keanu Reeves as John Wick.
In the first movie, John Wick (2014), Wick comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the Russian mobsters who killed his beloved dog, a gift from his late wife. The film features intense action sequences, fast-paced gunfights, and showcases Wick's exceptional fighting skills.
The second movie, John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), picks up where the first film left off, with Wick being pulled back into the world of assassins and hitmen. This time, he travels to Rome to fulfil a blood oath and finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy. The film expands on the world-building of the first movie, introducing new characters and a complex network of international assassins.
The third movie, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019), continues the story immediately after the events of Chapter 2, with Wick being declared “excommunicado” after killing a member of the High Table, a council of twelve crime lords that govern the underworld's most powerful criminal organizations. Wick must fight his way out of New York City, pursued by other assassins who are after the bounty on his head. The film features even more elaborate fight scenes and high-stakes action sequences, as well as new characters and a deeper exploration of the world of the High Table.
John Wick: Chapter 4 sees Wick travelling the globe, and facing off against new enemies, in order to uncover a way in which to defeat the High Table, and earn his freedom.
The John Wick movie franchise provides a great foundation on which to imagine a future “Wickiverse”, a virtual Metaworld, where fans of the movies and characters can socialise with like-minded fans, explore areas inspired by John Wick mythology, compete in competitions, and buy exclusive merchandise and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
