In pursuit of the Metaverse at Web Summit 2022: Part 1 is back in Lisbon for Web Summit 2022! Regarded by Forbes as “The best technology conference on the planet”, Web Summit is yet again bringing together over 70,000 people from across the tech industry to Lisbon’s Altice Arena. This year’s Web Summit runs from the 1st the 4th November 2022, and we’ll be spending the next few days reporting on the latest Metaverse news coming out of Lisbon.

Opening night turning out to be an emotional rollercoaster. After kicking-off proceedings just after 5pm with an introduction to some of the hottest start-ups on the planet, Ready Player Me CEO and Co-founder Timmu Tõke’s elevator pitch was cut short by a rigging / Skycam snafu, which put an immediate hold on opening night presentations, and to which had a front-row seat.

After an unplanned pause in proceedings, with the audience passing the time with some impromptu Mexican waves around the Altice Arena, opening night continued with emotionally charged talks by a Nigerian-born British photographer, entrepreneur, social activist, Chair of the Southbank Centre, and recently appointed Save the Children ambassador Misan Harriman, as well as the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. Watch the opening night video here.

Speakers we’re excited to see at this year’s event include: Sebastien Borget, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at The Sandbox, a “virtual Metaverse where players can play, build, own, and monetize their virtual experiences”; CEO of Yuga Labs, Nicole Muniz and Associate Editor at Fast Company, Yasmin Gagné, who will be discussing NFTs, metaverses and the road to Web3 Disney; and Head of Product at Meta (formerly Facebook) Naomi Gleit’s the metaverse and the future of the internet.

Web Summit 2022 runs from the 1st to the 4th of November. We’ll report back Friday the 4th of November on our event highlights. In the interim, you can follow us on our Instagram account at Please leave a comment below!
