Welcome to the Illuvium Metaverse

In today’s post we’re taking a look at Illuvium, which bills itself as “an open-world exploration, NFT creature collector and autobattler game built on the Ethereum Blockchain”. Founded by three Sydney brothers in 2020 and originally slated for a December 2021 release date, this new, non-fungible token (NFT) game is currently seeking people to take part in its Autobattler Private Beta 1, which allows players to build a team of alien beasts, and challenge opponents in the game’s Battle Arena.

Illuvium casts you as the survivor of a crashed spaceship. Upon emerging from the wreckage of your craft you are greeted by the alien planet’s beast-like inhabitants, Illuvials. From here in the game follows the Pokémon playbook. Players are expected to take on the role of a Hunter, exploring the seven different regions of the world of Illuvium in search of Illuvials. There are over one hundred Illuvials to find and collect, with each one possessing unique abilities. If you defeat and subdue an Illuvial in battle, you can collect them and add them to your roster of ‘battle-pets’, creating an in-game fighting team, with which to battle stronger, rarer creatures. You can then train your Illuvials and ‘fuse’ them to upgrade their power and increase their value. Once you collect three Illuvials that have each reached a certain level, you can fuse them together into a single, more powerful creature. For example, the Illuvial Atlas, can evolve into Axon, which can then evolve further into Axodon. You are able to fight alongside you Illuvials using weapons and suits of armour crafted from Illuvium’s raw materials. Illuvials themselves will be NFTs, which means players will be able to sell them on NFT marketplaces like OpenSea.

Illuvium is a play-to-earn, or P2E game, that rewards players for their time, effort and in-game activity with cryptocurrency, a non-fungible token (NFT), or an increase in value to a player’s existing NFT. In Illuvium, players can either earn in-game currency (ILV tokens) by playing the game, completing PvE (player versus environment) quests against the game’s artificial intelligence, performing special tasks, winning currency in tournaments and events, or by participating in and/or betting on matchers in the game PvP (player versus player) Battle Arena. Illuvium is built on the Ethereum Blockchain and ILV tokens can be traded on cryptocurrency exchanges including Binance, Suchi, KuCoin, 1inch, OKX and CoinSpot.

Illuvium isn’t the first game to mix role-play and NFTs. Games like Axie Infinity and Bomb Crypto are both similar in their design and gameplay. What sets Illuvium apart is its self-titled Triple-A status, which means bigger budgets (Illuvium raised $5m from venture capital firms in 2021), a broader scope and higher quality graphics. The Illuvium Roadmap, which can be found here., includes a mobile release in 2023 and a yet-to-be-announced ‘Second Major Illuvium Title’. Regardless of what happens next for Illuvimum, themetabite.com is impressed by the scale of this fantasy world and scope of its denizens, and see an Illuvium Metaworld somewhere on the Metaverse horizon.
